Yes, I will be offering pottery classes this winter! Two classes and two workshops, actually.
All will be here at the Studio.
Due to the continuing Covid-19 concerns, classes will be limited to 4 students, we will wear masks, and we will be careful about hand washing.
All materials and firing are included. The two workshops include lunch.
Please note that the driveway at Pine Ridge can get icy! If it is bad, I will let you know before class so you can decide whether you want to risk it. If it is really bad, classes will be canceled and made up later.
To register for any class, just get in touch!
Here are the details of the classes:
Clay – First Projects
Six sessions designed for the absolute beginner! You’ll be introduced to the main techniques for working with clay, and will complete about 4 projects. You’ll learn about pinch pots, coil building, slab building, and press molding, as well as being introduced to the main decorating techniques used in pottery.
Six Saturday afternoons, from 1pm to 3:30pm, starting March 6. (We will decide as a group whether we want to have a class on the Saturday before Easter.)
$60, payable at the first class.
Clay Days – Individual Projects
For those who have some experience with clay, and would like to work on their own projects. You will decide on one or more projects, plan how you will proceed, and work at your own pace. While you may complete several projects, the emphasis in this course will be on finding your way with clay.
Tuesday evenings, 7pm to 9pm, starting March 2.
$60, payable at the first class.
Workshop #1: Glaze, eh?
A huge subject! This is the perfect one-day workshop to get you started with pottery glazes. We’ll cover what they are, why we use them, how to mix them, how to apply them… glaze problems and how to address them, and how to manage glazes in the studio. Emphasis will be on Cone 6 glazes for oxidation firing.
One day: May 1, 10am to 4pm, lunch included. $40, payable at the workshop.
Workshop #2: The Artful Meal
This one is a bit different! It’s a pottery workshop aimed at visual artists who have experience in other media. You will choose and decorate a place setting, which I will then glaze and fire for you, and we will later get together at a mutually agreed-on day for a potluck lunch (or dinner) eaten on our new dishes. You’ll choose a mug, a small bowl, a small, a medium and a dinner plate. Place settings will not be all the same, you will have a choice of round, square or other shapes. This will stretch your design skills!
April 24, 10am to 4pm, $50, lunch and all materials included, payable at the workshop.
